Thomas Horgan founded Horgan Law Firm with a clear purpose: to provide sophisticated legal counsel to business owners, entrepreneurs, and families in Nebraska who deserve the same quality of representation typically associated with large institutional law firms, delivered with the personal attention and responsiveness that only a focused practice can offer. We sat down with Tom to talk about his background, the firm's evolution, and what he believes sets Horgan Law apart in today's legal marketplace.

How did you come to found Horgan Law Firm?

I spent a number of years working at large firms where I had the opportunity to work on sophisticated transactions and complex litigation matters. I learned an enormous amount about how to handle difficult legal problems at a high level. But I also saw a gap in the market: business owners and individuals with genuinely complex legal needs who were not well served either by large firms focused on institutional clients or by general practitioners who lacked deep subject matter expertise. I founded Horgan Law to fill that gap. Our firm brings real depth of knowledge to every engagement, paired with the kind of direct access and personal service that makes clients feel genuinely supported throughout their matter.

How has the firm grown since you started?

We have grown deliberately and intentionally. I have always believed that growth for its own sake can compromise quality, so we have been selective about who we bring on as attorneys and as clients. Our team now includes attorneys with deep experience across business law, commercial litigation, real estate, personal injury, and family law. Ron Frank brings considerable depth in business transactions. Fred Abboud's litigation experience spans complex commercial disputes in both state and federal court. Will Healey handles sophisticated real estate matters. Grace Wiseman leads our family law practice. And Courtney Sharp has developed a recognized practice in emerging areas including NIL law. Together, we cover the full range of legal needs our clients typically face, and we collaborate closely across practice areas whenever a matter requires it.

The best thing a lawyer can do for a client is to understand not just the legal issue in isolation, but the broader context of what that client is trying to accomplish. That requires genuine curiosity about their business and their life, not just their legal problem.

What kinds of clients does Horgan Law typically serve?

Our clients tend to fall into a few categories. We work with a significant number of business owners: from entrepreneurs starting new ventures to established companies with complex operational and legal needs. We handle commercial transactions, business disputes, employment matters, and the full range of issues that arise over the life of a business. We also serve high net worth individuals and families, including those dealing with significant asset divorce, estate related litigation, and real property matters. And we handle personal injury cases for clients who have been seriously injured and need an advocate who will fight for full and fair compensation.

What practice areas are you most excited about right now?

There are a few areas where I think we are genuinely ahead of the curve. NIL law is evolving rapidly, and we have invested in developing real expertise there. Nebraska has a vibrant college sports culture, and athletes, collectives, and institutions are all grappling with a fast changing regulatory environment. We are also seeing a lot of interesting work at the intersection of technology and traditional legal issues: autonomous vehicle liability, digital asset transactions, and the legal implications of artificial intelligence in business operations. These are areas where clients benefit enormously from counsel who has thought carefully about the novel questions involved rather than simply trying to fit them into existing legal frameworks.

What would you want a prospective client to know about working with Horgan Law?

I would want them to know that when they hire us, they get us. Our attorneys are directly involved in every matter we handle. Clients have direct access to their attorney, receive honest assessments of their situation rather than rosy reassurances, and can expect that we will tell them when we think there is a better path than litigation even if litigation would be financially advantageous for us. Our goal is to help clients achieve their objectives in the most effective and efficient way possible. That sometimes means going to court, and sometimes it means negotiating a resolution that gets our client what they need without the cost and uncertainty of a trial. We are proud of our track record in both modes. If you are dealing with a legal matter and wondering whether Horgan Law might be a fit, we encourage you to reach out for a consultation. We look forward to hearing from you.
